Nestled on the shores of Maui, LahAina Surf Shack isn't just a surf school – it's a community sanctuary. Founded and nurtured by two dedicated firefighters, LahAina Surf Shack embodies resilience, unity, and a deep commitment to uplifting the island's children and families. With a passion for both firefighting and fostering a love for the ocean, the owners have seamlessly woven their two callings into a haven of hope. For the past three years, this small business has been a guiding light for the community, running camps during every school break, working with children of all abilities, and spreading environmental awareness through beach cleanups.
The flames of the Maui wildfires may have tested their strength, but the spirit of LahAina Surf Shack remains unwavering. Through challenges, they rise stronger, embodying the true essence of "ohana" – a family where everyone supports and uplifts each other. Join us in the journey to rebuild and restore. Your support not only aids LahAina Surf Shack's incredible instructors and staff, but it fuels the dreams of countless children who find solace and inspiration in the waves. Let's come together to rewrite their story, one wave at a time.
Aina Kohler is the Owner and the "Aina" in LahAina Surf Shack. Aina was raised on Maui in Lahaina. She graduated from Lahainaluna High School with a Full ride basketball scholarship to University of Hawaii. She travelled around after college, got married and had twins, but longed to return to Lahaina where her family was and where her roots grew deep. She is also a firefighter for Maui County and was on duty fighting the fire the day her home town and everything she ever knew burned to the ground. Her childhood home, her home, her sisters home, their family boat her dad build in Lahaina 50 years ago and all the other places in Lahaina she treasured so much her entire life. She is looking to help rebuild this community in the future as the healing process begins and hopes to raise funds for her family and for the surf school.
